Why I’m Not a Mormon Today’s Top 10 List (from LDS Scripture) Part 2 of 2

Continued…

“…if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you…” The Bible calls God’s grace a gift; but Mormonism claims it must be merited: “…it is only after a person has so performed a lifetime of works and faithfulness—only after he has come to deny himself of all ungodliness and every worldly lust—that the grace of God, that spiritual increment of power, is efficacious” (Doctrinal Commentary on the Book of Mormon 1:295. Also, compare 2 Ne 25:23 and Eph 2:8-10).

“Keep my commandments continually,…except thou do this, where I am you cannot come.” The Bible tells us we are all under sin, unrighteous and unworthy of God’s favor. The apostle Paul even lamented that he desired to do what is right, but was unable to carry it out (Rom 3:9-20; 7:18-19). What Mormonism says God demands is impossible to achieve (see 1 Ne 3:7).

“…go your ways and sin no more; but unto that soul who sinneth shall the former sins return…” True repentance and forgiveness, according to Mormonism, is only achieved when we completely and forever abandon sin. As shown above (#5, #4), this is impossible–hopeless. But the Bible offers great hope: “He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities….so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us” (Ps 103:10-12).

“And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true;…he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.” This is unbiblical. The Bible never tells us to pray to know whether something is true; rather, we are to prayerfully search the revealed Word of God, asking for wisdom and guidance. Truth is brought to light by testing truth claims against God’s Word (1 Jn 4:1, 6; 2 Tim 3:16-17; 1 Thess 5:21. See Jer 17:9, Prov 14:12, 28:26).

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with thy soul, and with all thy might.” This confession of true faith, known as the Shema, confirms the uniqueness of the Lord (Jehovah) and asserts that He alone is God (Elohim). It is a call for God’s people to stay true to Him.

The words from the Shema are echoed in Deuteronomy 13 when God directly addressed the problem of false prophets. God told the Israelites they were not to be deceived by miraculous signs or fulfilled prophecy; these things were not the standard by which to ultimately judge the dreamer of dreams. Instead, a foundational question was (and is) to be asked: Who is the God the prophet proclaims? Is He the one true God the people have always known? Or a different God? (“We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity, I will refute that idea…” see #6)

Deuteronomy 13 is a test—not only to be applied to those claiming to speak for God, but also to determine the faithfulness of those who claim to follow God. “You shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deut 13:3).

I am not a Mormon—because I have committed to be faithful to the Lord my God, and to love Him with all my heart and with all my soul.

sorry it’s on Tuesday, forgot to put it on my blog

Why I’m Not a Mormon Today’s Top 10 List (from LDS Scripture) Part 1 of 2

Posted on September 19, 2011 by Sharon Lindbloom from http://blog.mrm.org/

“…king Mosiah had a gift from God…” (current edition); “…king Benjamin had a gift from God…” (1830 edition). This illustrates just one of many substantial changes made to the original Book of Mormon (the original was said to have been revealed and translated by the power of God, see History of the Church 1:54-55). A few additional examples of changes: 1 Ne 13:40 and 1 Ne 11:18 (“Son of” added), 1 Ne 19:20 (5 words added), 1 Ne 20:1 (7 words added).

“Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible.” Mormonism mocks the historicity and accuracy of the Bible, even while claiming it as one of its scriptures. Joseph Smith claimed “designing and corrupt priests” altered the biblical text, rendering our current Bible untrustworthy and incomplete. But the study of textual criticism reveals that the opposite is true. The Bible has been remarkably preserved.

The Book of Mormon “contains the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ…” However, many essential LDS doctrines of the gospel are not found in the Book. The doctrines of pre-existence, eternal progression, authority of the priesthood, baptism for the dead, celestial marriage, three degrees of glory, men becoming Gods, plurality of Gods (and more) are missing from the Book of Mormon.

“The Gods organized and formed the heavens and the earth” (v.1). Mormonism disagrees with the Bible which, from beginning to end, teaches there is only one true God (Deut 6:4, Rev 1:8). What’s more, God declares, “I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens…God himself that formed the earth and made it;…I am the Lord; and there is none else” (Is 45:12, 18. See Is 43-46).

“…God is not a partial God, neither a changeable being; but he is unchangeable from all eternity to all eternity.” The Bible agrees with this teaching (Ps 90:2), but today’s Mormonism does not. Joseph Smith said, “We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity, I will refute that idea, and will take away and do away the veil, so that you may see…he was once a man like us…” (King Follett Discourse, 1844).

Announcing the Compassionate Boldness Conference

From: http://blog.mrm.org/

Posted on September 8, 2011 by Bill McKeever

Friends of MRM,

We are down to a mere month and a half before we hold our 2011 Compassionate Boldness Conference (Oct. 14-15, 2011). Unlike MRM’s Compassionate Boldness Symposiums, the conference features the expertise of a number of people who are actively engaged in sharing the gospel message with our Latter-day Saint friends and loved ones. We thank Pastor Terry Long of Calvary Chapel Salt Lake City for graciously hosting this event.

This year Rob Bowman will be our main plenary speaker. He will be addressing the subject of LDS exaltation. What does the Bible say about this and is this really just a another version of theosis? Our wide range of topics will be an asset both to those who are familiar with Mormonism, and those who are just getting acquainted with this fascinating religion.

We hope you will help us make this conference a great success by mentioning it to your friends, congregations, Facebook pages, web sites, etc. I have attached a variety of promotional material. This is includes flyers, post cards, and bulletin inserts. Feel free to print and distribute whatever works for you. In order to encourage early registration we are offering substantial tuition discounts.

I thank you for your past support and hope you will pray that God will use this event to encourage Christians to share their faith with compassion and boldness.

I look forward to seeing you October 14-15, 2011!

Deuteronomy 18:21-22

21 You may say to yourself, ‘How can we recognize a message the Lord has not spoken?’ 22 When a prophet speaks in the Lord’s name, and the message does not come true or is not fulfilled, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.          Deuteronomy 18:21-22 (HCSB)

Here is a set of verses that we don’t use anymore.  a lot of pastor and churches around the world care to much about looking SUPER FRIENDLY and they do not want any finger pointed.

This is the wrong thing to do as Christians.  Now I am not saying we should point fingers over a small issue like ones view on end times, but  like  Harold Camping, then we can point fingers.

Over the years there has been a lot of people proclaiming to foretell what's to come. The issue is that when a person tries to be a Prophet and is wrong, the bible tells us that one is not from God and should not hear him or believe him or follow him.  more so verse 20 of Deuteronomy 18 says they should be put to death.

Now I am not saying that we should go out and put these people to death, because I am not going to be their judge.  We can point fingers.

10 For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision group. 11 They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”13 This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith 14 and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of those who reject the truth. 15 To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. 16 They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.  Titus 1:10-16

So let me ask this question, Are you going to follow a person to is a false teacher or false prophet?

As I write this I wonder if anyone is still going to Harold Camping church and listens to his radio show?  last week as I drove through Salt Lake City, I saw one of the billboards for his May 21 end times that did not come.

I was talking to a Mormon over the internet about this and asked him if he would believe someone like Harold Camping. someone who a number of times told of things to come, but they never did, a false prophet?  He told me that he would never follow a person who told him falsehood and then I asked him why he is a Mormon.  when he asked me what I was talking about, I started to inform him about the 56 false prophecies of Joseph Smith.

36 And also the Lord shall have apower over his bsaints, and shall creign in their dmidst, and shall come down in ejudgment upon fIdumea, or the world.

37 aSearch these bcommandments, for they are true and cfaithful, and the prophecies and dpromises which are in them shall all be fulfilled.

38 What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my aword shall not pass away, but shall all be bfulfilled, whether by mine own cvoice or by the dvoice of my eservants, it is the fsame. D&C 1:36-38

Now I have had a lot of Mormons tell that, “Maybe something did happen or something was not right and God did not allow it to come to pass.”  well again, D&C 1 says that they will be fulfilled. so again the question is why do Mormons follow Joseph Smith when he told 56 false prophecies?

A Sample of Joseph Smith's
False Prophecies

  1. Saints to gather to Independence, Mo. and build Temple (D&C 84)
No longer teach the gathering and temple never built.
  2. Zion (Independence, Mo.) can not fall (D&C 97:19)
    Mormons driven out.
  3. Army to redeem Zion (Independence, MO) (D&C 103)
Mission unsuccessful. V.30-34 God seems to be unsure about how large an army to raise.
  4. Civil War Prophecy (D&C 87)
England and other nations did not join in.
  5. United Order (D&C 104)
V.1 Commanded as everlasting order; V.48 & 53 dissolved and reorganized.
  6. Riches of Salem to pay church debt (D&C 111)
No riches found, debts not paid.
  7. Apostle Patten to go on mission in Spring 1839 (D&C 114)
He was shot in Oct. of 1838. Wouldn't God have known he was going to die before the next spring?
  8. New gathering place and temple in Far West (D&C 115)
LDS driven out, never built the temple.
  9. Build a temple in Nauvoo and house for Smiths (D&C 124)
    Temple and house not completed.
  10. Christ to return in 1890-1891 period (D&C 130:14-15)
    Christ did not return.
  11. US Government must redress wrongs or be destroyed (History of the Church, vol.5, p.394, vol.6, p.116 and Millennial Star, vol.22, p.455.)
It doesn't and is not destroyed.
  12. Three grand keys to test Messengers (D&C 129)
No known reference where any LDS church leader ever used this test. Does God give meaningless revelations?

Here are 12 but only 1 makes you a false prophet according to the bible and D&C chapter 1.  the word is not from God and he is false.

So what are you going to do?

Just Some Words

If you believe what you like in the Gospel, and reject what you don't like, it is not the Gospel you believe, but yourself. – Augustine

In the past weeks I have talk with people that say, “It’s my personal belief…”  This is a issue, when you put in your personal belief into something you are adding to it what you want.  when it comes to the things of God you cannot do this.

I always remember a saying on the BBC show Doctor Who, “There are some things that are just set in time a space.”

matt-smith-dr-who

When the Gospel is placed in front of us, we can not change it.  when we do we brake the first commandment, Don’t have any other God.  this is what you do when you change the gospel, you make your own God.

I can believe that my dog is a Pit Bull but that does not make it so.

Remember that this is God creation and we live in it.  It is up to you to live by him or live for yourself.

The Bible VS Joseph Smith

This is only the trailer, you can get your own copy at www.sourceflix.com

I got this movie Thursday in Salt Lake at Utah Lighthouse Ministry and came home and loved it.  The Question is asked, “How do we know if a prophet is speaking truth?”  A Christian and a Mormon set down and look at each faiths prophets and see if they hold to the test of Deuteronomy 18:20-22;

20 But the prophet who dares to speak in My name a message I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods—that prophet must die.' 21 You may say to yourself, 'How can we recognize a message the LORD has not spoken?' 22 When a prophet speaks in the LORD's name, and the message does not come true or is not fulfilled, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
