Looks like President (Jedi Master) Obama has good taste in kids books — especially those with light-up lightsabers! He was recently in Iowa and purchased Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy by Matthew Reinhart.

Yahoo News reports:

After mentioning an Iowa City bookstore in his health care speech Thursday, President Barack Obama stuck his head in and spent $37 on kids’ books.

The president bought two books for his daughters, 11-year-old Malia and 8-year-old Sasha. He also paid for a “Star Wars” pop-up book for the 6-year-old son of White House press secretary Robert Gibbs.

We asked Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy author Matthew Reinhart about the President’s recent book purchase and he told us:

What can I say? He’s got taste! Seriously, its a tremendous honor & delight for this humble pop-up book maker. Just goes to show you how universal Star Wars really is!

The Story of My Call

So about 5 weeks ago I decided to write the story of my call to ministry for a project for school.  i wanted to do this because i is a very important story in my life and just seeing what God has done for a person like me is amazing. i am not done with it yet but i would like to shear the first part of it with you tonight. Now remember this is not the final thing so there might be some miss spellings and fun things like that, but i hope you enjoy.

The beginning of the call

For I know the plans I have for you" the LORD's declaration—"plans for [your] welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (HCSB)

Let me start this story of right, “In the Beginning...” no no, how about, “in 1994 one of my best friends died.” Not the best way to start but this is where my calling started. On June 16, 1994 my best friend, Cory William Rock was killed. He was on his bike and was run over by a water truck. This was the first time in my life that death had hit me close to home and I did not know what to do. Cory was hit in the afternoon, I remember it well, it was a Friday, very nice out, and I almost just cut off my finger. We were picking up my bother from daycare and my cousin stopped and told me that our friend was ran over and it did not look like he would make it.

My mom had to work for the police station that night, she cleaned the offices for them and I wanted to go see the movie playing in town to get my mind off things. As I was there that night I seen an old friend that I had not seen in years. Her name was Desiree Brookman and I had known her from the school bus. She was married to Darren Brookman who happened to be a cop of the town I lived in. After the movie, on the way home, I asked my mom if she though Cory would be ok and that when she pulled the car over and told me that Cory had died. Darren was the one that told my mother and then as my mother ask “how will I tell Willie?” Darren told her that He would go and pick me up and be the one to tell me. My mother declined but later I find out that Darren called his wife to seat up at the movie theater and was to keep an eye on me and get me to the police station if someone had told me before my mother could.

It was because of what Darren was willing to do for a 14 year old kid that I first heard my calling from God. I was to help other for the rest of my life.

Now let me fast forward about 10 years. I was working at a pizza place, not a Christian and it was a Sunday. Rev. Morris Ball came in around 11am, dressed in a suit and tie and order a pizza. I asked him if he was coming from or going to and he told me he was come from church and going home. As we talked he told me that he was the pastor of St. Charles Christian Church and as he said that I made a joke saying, “That seems like an easy job, maybe I should do that.” He looked at me and said, “Well if you want to talk about it then come by the church tomorrow.

So the next day we meet and I told him my story and then he said something that changed my life. “People need helped in other ways, more than just physically.” That night I gave my life to Christ and hand my life over to Him and to do His work.
