When God Moves

This past Sunday, I was given the chance to preach one last time at Mineola Baptist Church In Montgomery County Missouri.  This is the church that I gave my life to Christ at and turned my life over to the ministry at.  It has been a dream of mine to preach there and i have been able to do that on a number of occasions, but today was very special.

It started by my wife Shannon giving a very moving testimony about how her life had been changed by this one church and that she would not be a Christian today if not for the people that gave their time and hearts to her. By the end there was not a dry eye in the place.

Then it was my turn to preach. I don’t want to brag, but I think I did a ok job.  Let me say it like this, I preached until 12:15pm and no one seem to care that I kept them a little long.

Preaching

The best part came as I was preaching I could see God working in the hearts of the people and that was really cool.  Seeing God working in the lives of the people is one of the best things in the world.

This will always be one of my greatest preaching moments in my life. I want to thank everyone for coming out and thank  Mineola Baptist Church for having my family and I.

2 More Wednesdays Left

Being a pastor one of the biggest days of the week is Wednesday.  This is the day when we have Wednesday night bible studies and for me Wednesday night youth.  I have been the Youth Pastor at Dorsett Village Church for the past 6 years and now I am moving on a new ministry.

I only have 2 more Wednesdays with my Youth and then I have to leave them. This by far is one of the hardest things about this move.  I have seen these young men and ladies go from just kids to driving and to college.  I have laugh with them and cried with them and so much more.

I know with facebook, text, and other things like that I will still talk to them but still i just hate to leave them.  God has other plans for me and I know that the staff here at DVC will take care of them.

So to my youth past and present, I LOVE YOU ALL!!!

The Day After

Well it’s November 3 and it was a long night. I love election nights and last night was a good one.

But anyway, in 26 day we are going to Utah to start a new chapter in the Hoffmann family.  More and more ministries are starting to show themselves and God is really moving.  Although I still don’t know which one God wants for me, I know there is one.

I’ll keep you posted…

No Ordinary Family

Last night was the pilot episode for ABC- No Ordinary Family. Being the geek that I am I had to watch, even giving up NCIS.  Now I have not watch any show on ABC in Some time because nothing has looked good. I believe the last show i watch on a regular  base was Lois and Clark.

Now the main cast I loved.

Michael Chiklis MySpace MTV Tower During Comic iovLeKzrWPRl

Michael Chiklis Coming from “the shield” and “fanatic four” comes out as the out of place dad feeling like the world is passing him by. The family is breaking up right in front of his eyes and all he wants to do is get his family back on track.

Julie Benz Coming from the hit show “Dexter”, Where she died, Plays the hard working mom wow only goal in life is to climb the leader.

The Show started with Jim Powell (Michael Chiklis) wanting the family to go with Stephanie Powell (Julie Benz) on vacation/work trip. After a plane crash Jim finds that he is super strong. Stephanie, having no time finds that she can run at the speed of sound.  They have 2 children a girl and a boy. the girl can read minds and the boy finds that he has vast intelligence

As i watched this show i find myself liking it more and more and I was also thinking about after it was over. I could really relate with the dad in so many ways. That was one of the biggest things for me to find in a show.

I am hoping for the best with this show because it looks to be a great family show. I will have to turn off NCIS for another week to see what happens next.  Overall I give the show a 8 out of 10.

A Work in the Works

So i have decided to work on a story, or book, or whatever you want to call it.  I have this idea for what could be a 3 book series and i am just going to go for it.

I know 3 people in my life that has wrote books and i have a lot of stories in my head and i would like to write them down. i don’t know if it will be good and i not looking to be some big name but i have always wanted to do this.

about a year ago i sit in on a writing workshop done by John Ostrander (comic book) and i really took a lot of what he said to heart. one of the things he said was to not show anyone what your working on until your done.  so i have decided that i am not going to talk about the story or show anyone until i am done, so please don’t ask what it’s about.  i do ask that you just keep me in your prayers in this time.  thank you and God bless.

My other passion

flipper_main

Back in 1995 a show appeared on TV, The New Adventures of Flipper.  When i saw this show on TV i fell in love with dolphins and all other sea life.  I wanted to become a marine biologist and spend my life working for the sea and it’s life, but God had other plans.

the covesea-shepherd2

I still have a love for the sea and i get hooked on shows and movies like The Cove, Whale Wars, and the coming soon Blood Dolphins.  It hurts to watch these shows because every time i see one of animals killed… well it sucks.

Killed_pilot_wales,_faroe_islands

After seeing the Cove i wanted to hunt me some  people. if you have never seen this movie you need to watch it and be just as mad as i am.  see the thing i don’t get is that if you kill a dog you can be thrown in jail, but if you kill a dolphins… you can make money.  the question i have is “how can people be so mean?”

Now please don’t think i am some kind of tree hugger or anything like that. i eat meat and i am a hunter but i don’t kill for fun i kill to survive.  My family never had a lot of money growing up and deer season was a gift from God. we never killed more then we needed and we never shot unless we knew we had the kill.   I still eat meat, not as much as i use too but i still do. i will never be upset for a person killing for food but when it come to a unless kill that upset me.

The Hoffmann’s are BACK

Well after a very nice week off in TN and GA we are back.  The family and i Got to go to God’s country, Gatlinburg TN.  I love this part of the country, it is so Godly i feel at peace and on of the greatest thing in the world is there…

GEDC0126

Yes one of my dreams came true, i got to seat in the General Lee and I was in heaven. This is a car that i grow up loving and is a car that one day i would love to have.  So if anyone has one and would like to give it to me, that would be cool.

GEDC0259But it was great to be in God’s Country and i love being in the bible belt.  It was nice to see people praying before a meal, other then my family.  Coming back to Missouri is great and all but i love to be in a place where God in front and center.  i know that God is everywhere but i love it when people there are more Churches then bars. I just wonder what this country would be like if the U.S. was just like the bible belt.  More Churches and less sin dens, How great would that be.

Rooted in the Word

For the past year i have been look for a church where God wants me to lead His people.  Too this date God still has not placed me where He wants me.  To be truthful i think i know where He wants me but it’s just not my time.  i kind of feel like David waiting on Saul to stop being King.

I have decided that in the meantime i will start a freelancing ministry named Rooted Ministries. this is something that has been on my heart for about 4 to 5 months now. I started by making up my own business cards and try to reach out to churches, pastors, and other Christians to get this off the ground.

what i need from people that read this is for you to pray.  Prayer is the best thing that can help and i know i need to turn to God to get this truly off the ground, i can’t do it with out Him.  So please take some time to pray for me and my new ministry and also remember the youth ministry i am still working in a Dorsett Village Church.

Look for more info on Rooted Ministries

Let’s wait for God

So in July i have 3 sermons to do.  i have one for youth camp, the two for Jonesburg Baptist Church on the 11 and 18.  This is great for me because i love to preach, i love to study, i just love everything about my job.

i decided to get a head start on things and get some of my sermons out of the way but when i started, nothing came out.  i walk around all day trying to come up with something but nothing.

I hate when that happens.

But i know i have to wait on God to show me what he wants me to say.  all my sermons have to be from God and nobody else, not even me.  i am doing His work and i have to Speak His words. God will give me His words and i will preach them, but until then i will study and pray.

If God is Good…

When bad things happen to people, others want to blame God or even clam that God is not there. We can not blame God when bad things happen and then praise Him when things go right. We have to praise Him always. It’s not God’s fault that bad things happen, its ours. We are the sinners, sin is the reason that bad things are in the world.

Genesis 3:6-9 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

6 Then the woman saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate [it]; she also gave [some] to her husband, [who was] with her, and he ate [it]. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.

It was at point that sin came in to the world and all the bad things happen. but we still sin and bad things still happen. See if we lived to perfect world then bad things would not happen but because we want to live in a world of sin then the bad things happen. Don’t blame God, we need to blame ourselves.

and that’s the truth

Sometimes i feel like homer.

doh_homer_simpson-1084

When i know something is bad but then i still do it. We as humans live in a world of sin and believe in God (if you do) then why do we sin. Now i know we are just humans and over all we are bad people (Rom 3:10-12) but that's not a way out. If you call yourself a Christian then we should know not to sin when we are faced with. Take speeding, Big problem for me. My family has always been known for having a heavy foot and in my life i have used it. now i know that speeding is wrong, obey the law of the land (Rom 13:1), but i still do it. Not saying I’m some speed demon but i still go 1 to 5 miles over. If the sign says 60 then we should go 60, not 61 not 62 but only 60.

2M4360_preview

We see sin but we still do it. I feel like crap. Jesus died for me and i keep spitting on him. Sin is ugly and we seem to live in it. i have seen a lot of Christian that try so hard to live in the world that they act and look like it. I love when people tell me that “Jesus would hang out with the sinners”, this is true but Jesus never blended into the group, He stood out. Jesus was the one in the room that people looked at and say, “What's up with that guy?” We too need to stand out. As Christians we need to be the one in the room that people say, “why is that person different?”

So what do we do when sin comes our way. If we love God and want to obey Him we need to be in the Word all day. When sin comes our way we need to turn to the Word of God. I have a bible in every room in my house and when sin comes i grab the Word and read. Christians need to carry their bible everywhere we go.

banned-bible It drives me crazy to see people not have their bible at church. the question is, if they can’t bring it to church, then will they have it when sin comes. If your not in the Word all day everyday then you will be hit hard by sin. If you don’t have a sword in a sword fight then your dead. If the bible is our sword then we need to use it. We are fighting a war and we have to have our weapon. sometimes we have our bibles but don’t use them. A book is no good if you don’t use it. I love to see people with bibles that have been beaten up by being used. I love to see the notes that people write in their bibles. Not to see what they think but to know that they use it. When we use it we are less a chances to fall into sin. I guess what i am trying to say is if we don’t want to feel like a homer then we need to get more into the Word.

Blinding Light

"I've been to Damascus and i didn't go by air, I walked upon the paved Roman Way, I stood at the very spot Where a brilliant light once shone, and i saw a fleeting flicker there that day, but it needn't Damascus and it needn't be on a road and it needn't be a lofty mountain height, it could be in a closet and it could be at the door that , if opened, glows the glorious, blinding light."

The Man in White

The friends of the Nazarene became united and i became enrage and led a slaughter zealously, I found their secret places, they were beaten, they were chained but some of them were scattered, justified in fearing me.

Then the Man in White appeared to me in such a blinding light, it struck me down, and with it's brilliance took away my sight, then the Man in White in gentle loving tones spoke to me and i was blind so that i might see The Man in White.

What Movies Should I Watch as a Christian?

This question came to me this past week when i was at school (SLCC). Mike, my buddy and I was in the coffee shop and in there they have a big screen TV that was given to the college and almost ever night they show movies. Now the rule as I know it is that they can watch movies as long as they are PG-13 and under.

Now to let you know i love movies and i love to watch moives in the coffee house but over the years i have find some issues with this rule of theirs.

1st: for the longest time they would not show "The Passion of the Christ" because it was rated R. Ok, i know it breaks the "PG-13 rule but come on. IT'S A CHRISTIAN COLLEGE!!! Over time it became ok to show it but i think i only seen played once.

2nd: If something is PG-13 it still should not be shown at a Christian College. The other night Mike and I where in there and they were showing the movie Avatar. Now don't get me wrong, i loved this movie when i went to see it in 3D but this is not a movie that should have been oked to play and let me tell you why;

Now just as i was in the coffee shop in the movie you have one of the actors say, "I did not sing up for this s*#t. Now i have heard this word before, i mean come on i have said it, but do you think it should be said at a Christian School. Now Mike and I left the coffee shop and made it known that we were not happy with what we just heard, so i dont know if the main boss of the coffee shop, who was watching the movie turned it off, but i dont think they did. i decided to go out and rent the movie to see if this was a one word thing or if it was worst. now like i said i have seen this movie when it was in 3D but i could not remember.

Now as i started to watch this movie, within the first 13mins Avatar use the big bad word in the Christian faith, they used the GD word. Now i believe that once this word was said, this movie had been shut off and it was way before the s&#t word.

Now as i was seating around thinking about this whole thing, the questions came to my mind, What Movies Should I watch as a Christian?

Now over the years i have talk to people about this and really the only people that have said anything about not watching bad movies are pastors and their familys. A lot of christian i have talked to that live their day to day and attend church most Sundays and Wednesdays never really mind watching movies with killing and cursing and even sex. Now is this ok? Now i am not perfect so don't think I'm am trying to beat up people or think i am better then them because i watch those types of movies to, i really like Rob Zombie movies so...

But something changed in me as well in the past 3 almost 4 years, i had kids. I did not want to subject my Kids to the type of stuff that i would watch in my day to day life. I started to keep an eye on what was on and i also started to keep my ears open to what was on the radio. My youth have joked at me over the years because one of my set stations in my car is radio Disney and i like it.

But the point i am trying to make is that when we give our life to Christ we are saying that we are a new creation and the old has passed away. There was an old saying; "Would you watch that with you Pastor?" Well the question i have is would you watch that with Jesus? Because He is always with us and He knows what we are watching. so maybe as Christians we should watch something that more family friendly.

that's all i have to say, take or leave it, but remember God loves you.

What has happen in the work place?

I was walking through a hospital here in St. Louis and i seen 2 nurses both checking their cell phones.  now i don’t know if they were looking at email or a text but it does not matter. now I'm not that old, only being 29 but i remember a time when you had to worked at work.  Now you can walk through any workplace and see a number of people playing on their phones, answering emails and texting.  Work is for work and cell phones are for outside the work place.

Now i know that if your cell phone is part of you job, then that’s ok. but if you do not need to use your cell phone then stay off and work.

What is wrong with the world?

This question is simple. The Problem with the world is that we have strayed so far away from God that this world belongs to the evil. I see so many people run around do what they see is right in their own eyes and for the most part they are doing wrong.

I am 4 weeks from ending my School life and going full time into the one job this world hates.  I am a pastor in the STL and i preach the word of God to all that will listen.  But i have been a little down this week because every time I look at things like Facebook and other sites it seems like everyone wants to play, “Beat on the Christian”. Why do people have to do this? Why do people have to be so hateful?  YES I SAID HATEFUL, BECAUSE THATS WHAT YOU ARE.

See when you want me to accept you way of life, and that could be any, you in turn need to accept my choice of life.  I believe in Jesus the Christ, the one and only son of God that died for the world.  In the bible there are commandments that i have to obey because it is what i believe in and just because you do not like them, well sorry but you have to accept them.

Just because you don’t like my way of life, well to bad, it’s my life.  You want me to to accept you life, ok, i don’t agree with it and i will pray for you but live you life. I ask that you accept what i believe and do not bash my choice.  So everyone out there that wants to hate on us Christians, don’t.  You are just being hateful and then you can’t even start to talk about me being a Christian and hating on any group of people.

See i do not not hate any body. i love you because that is what the bible commands me to do. So don’t ever say that i hate some people because i don’t.  We are all sinners and i can hold myself above any one else because I'm a Christian because i sin everyday. I am not perfect and i don’t clam to be, i work hard to be more Christ-like but i am still just a imperfect man.

I want to end by saying this “You want me to accept you than accept me.” Don’t hate me then cry about how much i hate you because i don’t hate you, i love you and i am praying for you.

John 15:18 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

"If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me before it hated you.

So i have to give Obama one “job well done”.

President Obama Buys Star Wars Pop-up Book

March 25, 2010

photo: AP Photo/Charles Dharapak

Looks like President (Jedi Master) Obama has good taste in kids books — especially those with light-up lightsabers! He was recently in Iowa and purchased Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy by Matthew Reinhart.

Yahoo News reports:

After mentioning an Iowa City bookstore in his health care speech Thursday, President Barack Obama stuck his head in and spent $37 on kids’ books.

The president bought two books for his daughters, 11-year-old Malia and 8-year-old Sasha. He also paid for a “Star Wars” pop-up book for the 6-year-old son of White House press secretary Robert Gibbs.

We asked Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy author Matthew Reinhart about the President’s recent book purchase and he told us:

What can I say? He’s got taste! Seriously, its a tremendous honor & delight for this humble pop-up book maker. Just goes to show you how universal Star Wars really is!

The Story of My Call

So about 5 weeks ago I decided to write the story of my call to ministry for a project for school.  i wanted to do this because i is a very important story in my life and just seeing what God has done for a person like me is amazing. i am not done with it yet but i would like to shear the first part of it with you tonight. Now remember this is not the final thing so there might be some miss spellings and fun things like that, but i hope you enjoy.

The beginning of the call

For I know the plans I have for you" the LORD's declaration—"plans for [your] welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (HCSB)

Let me start this story of right, “In the Beginning...” no no, how about, “in 1994 one of my best friends died.” Not the best way to start but this is where my calling started. On June 16, 1994 my best friend, Cory William Rock was killed. He was on his bike and was run over by a water truck. This was the first time in my life that death had hit me close to home and I did not know what to do. Cory was hit in the afternoon, I remember it well, it was a Friday, very nice out, and I almost just cut off my finger. We were picking up my bother from daycare and my cousin stopped and told me that our friend was ran over and it did not look like he would make it.

My mom had to work for the police station that night, she cleaned the offices for them and I wanted to go see the movie playing in town to get my mind off things. As I was there that night I seen an old friend that I had not seen in years. Her name was Desiree Brookman and I had known her from the school bus. She was married to Darren Brookman who happened to be a cop of the town I lived in. After the movie, on the way home, I asked my mom if she though Cory would be ok and that when she pulled the car over and told me that Cory had died. Darren was the one that told my mother and then as my mother ask “how will I tell Willie?” Darren told her that He would go and pick me up and be the one to tell me. My mother declined but later I find out that Darren called his wife to seat up at the movie theater and was to keep an eye on me and get me to the police station if someone had told me before my mother could.

It was because of what Darren was willing to do for a 14 year old kid that I first heard my calling from God. I was to help other for the rest of my life.

Now let me fast forward about 10 years. I was working at a pizza place, not a Christian and it was a Sunday. Rev. Morris Ball came in around 11am, dressed in a suit and tie and order a pizza. I asked him if he was coming from or going to and he told me he was come from church and going home. As we talked he told me that he was the pastor of St. Charles Christian Church and as he said that I made a joke saying, “That seems like an easy job, maybe I should do that.” He looked at me and said, “Well if you want to talk about it then come by the church tomorrow.

So the next day we meet and I told him my story and then he said something that changed my life. “People need helped in other ways, more than just physically.” That night I gave my life to Christ and hand my life over to Him and to do His work.

Stop the Killing!!!

So there is a new controversy in the US and it's all over a pro life ad for the Superbowl. Focus on the Family has decided to put up over a million dollars to put on a ad to celebrate life. Tim Tebow has made a ad for focus on the family to tell the story of his mother and the choice she made to have a baby.

Now all the pro choice people out there are all fired up because people have another opinion on the matter. See this argument is very one sided when talking to a pro choicer. They only want their side to be heard. Now if it ok with them i would like to say i believe in pro life. i am pro life, and i want to see something more the beer ads on the Superbowl. SUE ME !!!

I have 2 girls that when i seen the first ultrasound i knew that they were humans, not a mass blob like "They" want you to think. i seen them move and i seen their hearts beating, i knew they were alive. Hey women, when you are jumping from bed to bed and and get your self pregnant, think about somebody other then yourself.

For the people that thinks it ok to kill a baby because it may grow up to become a killer or something worst. we already have bad people in the world but we will never know before hand what a person will be, only God knows that, so please stop playing God.

Let the children have a chances to become something then just another soul lost to this world because of selfish people. STOP THE KILLING!!!

the bible for men

for most people, the bible can be a hard thing to read. i have talked to a lot of people that tell me that they just can't seem to get through it. people think that the bible is a long book of rules, but it's more then that. the bible is a jam packed book of action and excitement. i have been reading the Old Testament and let me tell you, the OT is one of the best actions book ever put together. this is a book that any man that loves actions movies would love. you have war, spies, and everything that makes a good man movie. this year get into the OT men and read and read and read all the action, war, and how God's plan started. but don't stop there, go ahead and read the NT as well and see how the story ends.

friday is strange

when i woke up, i knew today was going to be strange. it not anything that is going on it's just more like my brain has not woke up yet. everything seems to be in a blur and it strange. i had a very good night at school and then i came home and started reading my bible and started to study some real hard theology. then as i sleep all of it was running through my head and now i feel the effects of all that running around.

so to make things easier for everyone, don't do hard theology before bed.

This is the day.

When the day seems bad, remember that God has blessed you with this day. God has given us so much in our lives and when He gives us anything, then it is good. so when ever you believe your having a bad day, remember that God gave us this day and it is good.
