The Bible vs The Book of Mormon

  1. (Sorry for the deleted post; I added to it after writing the initial paragraph and need to make a minor change. Thanks!)

    * * * * *

    I clicked on a random point in the video, watched for about a minute, and found four irrefutable, factual errors.

    First of all, the Hill Cumorah in New York has nothing to do with the Hill Cumorah spoken of, in the Book of Mormon. Mormon 6 makes this abundantly clear.

    A few seconds later, the speaker states that the Hill Cumorah in New York “is owned by the Mormon Church,” which is also incorrect. It is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

    A few seconds after that, the speaker claims that “it is the only place that the LDS Church claims to be an official, ancient historical site.” This is untrue on two counts: first, there is no such organization as “the LDS Church”; and second, the Church has never claimed the Hill Cumorah in New York to be “an official, ancient historical site.”

    Sorry, PastorWil, but I stopped watching there. If the video can’t even get the basic, indisputable facts right, why should anyone expect its interpretation of the Bible (or, for that matter, the Book of Mormon) to be right?

    Peace.

  2. The Mormon Church in which He says is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the LDS. these are very common terms used by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah and around the world. (see www.mormon.org, www.LDS.org)

    Also If that is not the Hill Cumorah, then why is it a huge deal for the LDS?

    “Oliver Cowdery went with the Prophet Joseph when he deposited these plates. Joseph did not translate all of the plates; there was a portion of them sealed, which you can learn from the Book of Doctrine and Covenants. When Joseph got the plates, the angel instructed him to carry them back to the hill Cumorah, which he did. Oliver says that when Joseph and Oliver went there, the hill opened, and they walked into a cave, in which there was a large and spacious room. He says he did not think, at the time, whether they had the light of the sun or artificial light; but that it was just as light as day. They laid the plates on a table; it was a large table that stood in the room. Under this table there was a pile of plates as much as two feet high, and there were altogether in this room more plates than probably many wagon loads; they were piled up in the corners and along the walls. The first time they went there the sword of Laban hung upon the wall; but when they went again it had been taken down and laid upon the table across the gold plates; it was unsheathed, and on it was written these words: ‘This sword will never be sheathed again until the kingdoms of this world become the kingdom of our God and his Christ’” (Brigham Young, June 17, 1877, Journal of Discourses 19:38).

    “This is their own declaration of faith in that point: A young man named Joseph Smith, in the western part of New York, guided, as he says, by Divine Inspiration, found, in 1830, a kind of stone chest or vault containing a number of thin plates of gold held together by a ring, on which they were all strung, and engraved with unknown characters” (Times and Seasons 2:305-306).

    Seems like the Hill in New York is a big deal to them and is clamed to be the one talked about in the Book of Mormon. But again my information comes from the Lds History, so who knows if its true.
